Facts

  Most public primary and secondary school students learn in environments that are not encouraging in Nigeria.  The facilities have been stretched to obsolete conditions as a result of improper planning by the government at all levels.  Considering the dilapidated toilet facilities in several of these schools and the absence of potable and drinkable water, the potential outbreak of an epidemic cannot be ruled out. Teachers are no longer dedicated to duty due to their nightmarish working conditions.  Cultism has taken root in most of these schools, while "armed robbers" in school uniforms dot the nooks and crannies of every part of the country.  Indeed, cultists, mostly young people, are now strategic stakeholders in elections in many states. Parents and guardians in Nigeria have been advised to expose their children and wards to very good upbringing to aid their positive development. This advice was given on Thursday by Dr. Tunde Awosanmi at the maiden edition of an event tagged Nations Rhythm Festival at the Alliance Francaise center, Ibadan, Nigeria. ''Only parents who are wise will bring up their children very well. Your parents should give you a good experience for your development. Parents and guardians must bring up their children in the way of culture, in this lost world'', Dr. Awosanmi satd. In his remarks, the founder and artistic director, Mr. Olalekan Adedokun explained that the festival was organized to teach all that is, to learn about drums. The provision of the appropriate, policices, programs, services and information that supports children and youth development has been recommended for the grooming of the future generation. This recommendation was given on Saturday by the Founder, Spiritual Head and Grand Imam of Shafaudeen-in-Islam Worldwide, Prof. Sabitu Olagoke at the opening ceremony and Inter-House Sports of Shafaudeen Group of Schools in Ibadan,, Oyo state, Nigeria. In his address titled, ;; Child Rearing and Wellness for Growth and Development, Prof. Olagoke stated : ''Appropriate policies, programs, services and information that focus on nurturing care are, therefore, needed to build an environment in which children and young people can thrive.
