The Dirty Environment

Image
Most state governments in Nigeria have over the years failed to ensure that the environment is habitable. Even though the state governments introduced task forces to enforce environmental regulations and expended large sums of money on sanitation, the environment in most states still remains dirty. Interestingly, waste Management Boards in the states have done little or nothing to improve the worrisome situation. However, the boards have been up beat in seemingly generating revenue for the government, despite the poor state of the environment. Of worry, is the recycling of quack ideas, which has resulted in the conversion of the multi-billion Naira Ogunpa River Channelization scheme in Ibadan, Oyo state to a major refuse dump. No doubt the negative habits of the people have for long been a major factor that has contributed to the poor state of the environment, just as the government seeks solace in its feeble efforts to reverse the ugly trend. Heaps of refuse in every available ...

The Unthinkable and the Avoidable

Image
Lawlessness, indiscipline, criminality, evil, ignorance, idleness, and illiteracy are the basic foundations of terrorism.  Presently, the upbringing of young people, strange doctrines, and very abnormal ways of life in several communities in Nigeria speak volumes.  Without doubt, the known and unknown conditions for breeding and training the unthinkable and avoidable have been met in communities such as Molusi, Onafuwa Solanke, Oyegbami, Olorunsogo, Molete, Aluko, Felele, and Scout Camp, among several others in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria.  A very careful observation will unearth the fact that a different strain of terrorism is gradually taking root in this part of Nigeria.  Children and young adults now commit crime under the watchful eyes of their parents and guardians, without consequences. Learning may not be the primary focus in most schools presently, as immorality gains a solid root. Cultism, prostitution, sodomy, homosexuality, pedophilia, rape...

The Culture of Hard Drugs

Image
The culture of the sale and use of hard drugs is now the order of the day in several communities in Nigeria. The lives of a sizable number of young people in the country now hang in the balance as they vigorously embrace the culture. Education is no longer the destination, as violent crimes with prospects of riches increase on a daily basis. The culture is now practiced in the open and those involved surprisingly exhibit boldness and confidence. Why?  Respected members of communities covertly support the trade. At 6, Kehinde Aderibigbe street, Olorunsogo, Molete, Ibadan, Oyo state, Nigeria, the sellers of the outlawed substances, use the grinding of pepper and tomatoes as a smokescreen. Sadly, law enforcement agencies which benefit immensely from the drug trade are morally handicapped to eradicate it from communities.

The next day I was called early in the morning, I was preparing to go to work, when the caller told me Eze was dead, I was surprised I did not believe the caller. LGs in Oyo state have gone into Extinction-Former Councillor

Democracy is not in place at the Local Government Level in Nigeria. This assertion was made by a former Councillor in the Ibadan South East Local Government Area of Oyo state, Honorbale Yusuf Babatunde. ''Although elections are conducted by the local governments in Oyo state, those who are there now got to the positions by selection. This is a bad approach. The state governments in the affected states have now taken over the sources of revenue of the local governments, including their functions. The chairmen and councillors receive only salaries. They are now expressing regrets. The local governments are no longer empowered financially as, as a result, they have been crippled. It is a one-man show,'' Hon. Babatunde lamented.
